Editorial disclosure: I work at Zellbox, so this post is biased. Crisp described from their pricing page as of August 2026. Correction? Ping me on LinkedIn.

If you’re comparing Crisp, you’ve likely also seen Intercom, Tidio, or Freshchat. Crisp is a European live-chat + inbox platform for SMBs — web chat + WhatsApp + email, at Intercom-lite pricing. Zellbox is a different product: appointment-driven small businesses that need WhatsApp reminders tied to a calendar.

Where Crisp fits

Crisp is at its best when your business runs on inbound website conversations: SaaS trials, e-commerce pre-purchase questions, small support teams. WhatsApp is one channel next to web chat in the same inbox.

Where Zellbox fits

If your business runs on visits, inbound web-chat is the wrong shape. Zellbox is calendar-native — outbound reminders fire from your appointment schedule, not inbound triage from a chat widget.

Migrating off Crisp

If you’ve decided Crisp isn’t the right shape for an appointment-driven business, the migration itself is straightforward — there just isn’t a one-click export button that moves everything for you.

Exporting contact history. Crisp lets you export conversation and contact data from the Settings → Data Export panel (or via the Crisp API if you need it in a specific format). Do this before canceling — once a subscription lapses, historical conversation access typically goes with it, even if the underlying data isn’t deleted immediately.

Canceling the subscription. Crisp bills per website/month on paid plans, so cancellation is a straightforward downgrade to the free tier (2 seats) or a full cancel from the billing settings — there’s no long-term contract to negotiate out of on the standard plans.

Re-pointing the WhatsApp Business number. This is the step people forget. If Crisp is connected to your WhatsApp Business number as a BSP (Business Solution Provider) integration, that connection needs to be explicitly disconnected before the same number can be connected to a different platform — including Zellbox. Two products can’t both hold an active BSP connection to the same WhatsApp number at once, so plan for a short window where WhatsApp messaging is paused during the handoff.

Crisp + Zellbox running side by side

Migrating off Crisp entirely isn’t the only option — plenty of teams keep Crisp for what it’s good at and add Zellbox only for the appointment-reminder piece it doesn’t cover.

The handoff point that makes this work cleanly: Google Calendar stays the source of truth for reminders, Crisp stays scoped to inbound web chat only. Crisp keeps handling pre-purchase questions and support conversations that arrive through the website widget, while appointment bookings — wherever they’re actually scheduled — sync to a Google Calendar that Zellbox reads independently to fire WhatsApp reminders. Neither product needs to know the other exists; they simply operate on different inputs (web-chat sessions vs. calendar events) and, in most setups, different WhatsApp touchpoints (Crisp’s inbox triage vs. Zellbox’s outbound reminder templates). This avoids a forced either/or decision for teams whose business has both an inbound support motion and an outbound appointment motion.

When to pick which

Pick Crisp if: your SMB runs on inbound web chat + email + WhatsApp inbox triage.

Pick Zellbox if: your business runs on appointments and you want WhatsApp reminders tied to your Google Calendar — outbound-first rather than inbound-chat.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of business is Crisp built for?
Crisp is a European live-chat + inbox platform — website chat, WhatsApp, email, Messenger, chatbots. Popular with SaaS + e-commerce SMBs that want an Intercom-shaped product at a lower price point.
How does Crisp's pricing compare with Zellbox?
Crisp has a free tier (2 seats) and paid plans from $25/website/month. Zellbox is free forever for essentials (100 WhatsApp reminders/mo, 2 users) and Pro at $29/month covers 5 users flat.
Which one is better for a clinic or salon?
Zellbox. Crisp's DNA is website live-chat — inbound conversations from web visitors. It doesn't sync with Google Calendar and doesn't have scheduled event-based reminders.
